As President Obama visits a Fremont solar panel manufacturing plant today to tout green jobs, a huge divide is opening up between the state's top Republican and Democratic candidates over their environmental positions - in particular about how to attract and retain clean-tech business.

Four of the five Republicans seeking statewide office boast about their Silicon Valley roots, but all oppose the state's groundbreaking climate change law, known as AB32, that was championed by the region's tech leaders. New polls show Whitman recapturing wide lead in GOP race for governor

Two new public polls and an internal poll released by Meg Whitman's campaign for governor on Tuesday show the GOP candidate recapturing a sizable lead over rival Steve Poizner.

A survey of 600 likely Republican primary voters on Sunday and Monday showed Whitman with a 26-point lead — 53 percent to 27 percent. The survey was done by Whitman's polling firm, McLaughlin & Associates of Virginia.Read more
